Where have all the books gone? Books belong in so many places and yet it's getting harder to spot any amongst the mobile devices. Bring books back to the garden, the park, the beach and the waiting room!
The incredibly talented Angela Perrini brought this book to life. She has illustrated many children's' picture books, including books written by local Albury author, Aimee Chan.
Have you found some familiar characters in the pages of this book? You might have spied Peter Pan, an ogre, the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, a witch, an elf, and Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. Some might be less familiar. Angela included the character Cosimo from Il Barone Rampante, by Italian writer, Italo Calvino in the beach scene. In the cafe scene, Angela drew a character from the paintings of the famous artist, Rene Magritte.

There are so many special things to find in nature. Sometimes we just need to slow down long enough to see them. Walking in the bush is my happy place and I am fortunate to live close to a beautiful walking track. In 2023, I became unwell and, for a time, was not able to walk as quickly or as far as I was used to. It was while my steps were slow and short that I truly took notice of all the wonderful things around me. The sounds, sights and smells of the bush were a sensory delight and were a tonic for my recovery. I wanted to share the beauty of the bush through the eyes of a child; one who dawdles and explores and takes notice of little things. Through The Girl With A Feather In Her Hair, I invite you to take a walk in nature with a deliberate sense of curiosity and wonder.
I was incredibly fortunate to come across the work of Julie Spencer and was thrilled when she agreed to illustrate The Girl With A Feather In Her Hair. Weekly video calls allowed us to discuss the illustrations in fine detail and we quickly discovered our shared affinity for the Australian bush, I am delighted with the way Julie has brought my vision to life. Thank you, Julie, for your insight and commitment to this book.
Stay tuned for teaching resources!
